seer explorer demo blurred

One of the major projects that I have been undertaking has been the evaluation and redesign of a current research tool, SEER*EXPLORER, to apply to a broader audience. This has been a multi-month effort which has involved utilization of a number of different usability and user experience methods, including interviews with key members of leadership, reading over documentation and past efforts, and trying to understand the current usability problems and how they could be addressed.

The project initially started with a review of documentation and previous usability efforts. This was done to not only to understand how the program changed over the years, but to understand where the efforts up until this point were centered around. I was then able to see how our current goals fit into the project.

Since then, I have been examining both best design practices as well as looking at evidence provided through documentation and pilot studies in order to make recommendations. I have been following lessons learned from the Nielsen Norman Group in order to avoid using terminology specific to HCI as well as learning how to present findings to leadership. I have also been refining my skills in a number of low-key prototyping techniques for quick iteration, ranging from paper prototyping and sketching to Paint and Photoshop. Quick prototype turnaround as well as being able to talk with multiple members of leadership has allowed me to refine my understanding of this project.
